Co Thach Pagoda is located on Co Thach hill in Binh Thanh commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province. With the road system connecting many roads and many tourist destinations in Binh Thuan nowadays, it is possible to reach Co Thach Pagoda by many roads from many different directions. Co Thach Pagoda means ancient stone pagoda, this name has been from the time the pagoda was newly established until now associated with the topography of a mountainous region. In addition, the temple is also known by locals as Hang Pagoda because its items are created based on the terrain of natural rocks and caves. Co Thach Pagoda is located on Co Thach hill in Binh Thanh commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province. With the road system connecting many roads and many tourist destinations in Binh Thuan nowadays, it is possible to reach Co Thach Pagoda by many roads from many different directions.

Co Thach Pagoda means ancient stone pagoda, this name has been from the time the pagoda was newly established until now associated with the topography of a mountainous region. In addition, the temple is also known by locals as Hang Pagoda because its items are created based on the terrain of natural rocks and caves.

In the 16th year of Minh Mang’s reign (1835), Bao  Thien Zen master (born in 1818) was born in Phu Yen. After a long time of taking the precepts at home, he found his way to the South to propagate the Buddha Dharma. Go to Co Thach mountainous area, choose a cave to establish a religious life. Khai Son and practiced in Co Thach Tu for 5 years. In 1839, the Zen master entrusted the pagoda to his pupils to take care of him. He continued traveling to the South alone. On May 25, 1872, Zen Master Bao Tang passed away at Ngoc Tuyen Pagoda on Ky Vien Mountain, Vung Tau City. In commemoration of the great monk’s meritoriousness to the founder of Co Thach Pagoda, the pagoda has taken the 5th of the 5th lunar month every year as the death anniversary of the temple.

The population of Co Thach pagoda is spread over a hilly area of about 4 ha. The entrance to the pagoda through the Main Gate is to the west, past the Main Gate to the left is the quite and dignified Ancient House. From here, follow the entrance to the pagoda about 100 meters to reach the Main Palace. Before entering the main hall, you must climb 36 steps made of plaster to Tam Quan Gate. the image of the tiger and elephant image.

Beyond Tam Quan Gate, you will enter the pagoda yard, main architectural items will be arranged around the temple yard. Opposite the Gate of the Three Gates is a natural stone rising soaring like a line, the right stone is shaped like     a whale, Buddhist scriptures called the “Ma Kiet” - a type of aquatic creature Considered to be an incarnation from Guan Yin Bodhisattva who often helps fishermen in distress at sea, this rock is used to build the 2-storey tower bell tower above. On the left is a rock shaped like a Bat Nha boat used to build an empty floor similar to the bell floor. The stone in the middle is like a toad, the Buddhist scripture is called the “Thien Trung” - a gentle animal that symbolizes the purity of the Buddha’s door.

Opposite the Gate of Tam Quan through a yard of the pagoda is Ngo Mon, entering Ngo Mon Gate is a series of caves formed by natural stones higher than 10 meters arranged in a semicircular arc, used to adjust to form caves for worshiping Buddha, the order from right to left is Hang To (worship Su Bao Tibet), Chua De Chua Buddha, Tam Bao cave and Main Palace. Entering the stone caves in the main hall, we can feel the solemn atmosphere, each cave has a different shape and wild beauty, skillfully renovated and decorated by human hands to use. making a very unique and strange place of worshiping Buddha, in each decorated cave, worship many ancient Buddha statues.

To the right of the Three-Gate, the view from the inside is a series of architectural items, including: the Zen house, the Tang temple, the amphitheater, the Tang house, and their houses. radius of a few hundred meters, visitors will admire many strange architectural works appear before or hidden in the cave. That is the Tam The Buddha area, Tam The Mau church, Cuu Thien Huyen Nu cave, Ba Chua Ngoc worship cave and many other worshiping amam.

Each cave, am worshiping Buddha here are beautiful and strange stone structures constructed by man, modified to make a solemn and mysterious place of worship. Here the primitive nature of nature covers all architectural works, with his ingenious hands and talents, man has reformed and embellished the caves of nature to be more complete. Compared to other pagodas,   the architectural scale of Co Thach pagoda is not large but diverse and colorful. The beauty of Co Thach pagoda is that it is located in a large complex of caves shaped like a series of shapes crammed between rock and undulating forest trees. The harmony between flower garden art, architecture and sculpture harmonizing with the interior arrangement of worship adds to the serenity and solemnity.

Co Thach Pagoda also preserves many valuable relics and antiques associated with the history of formation, existence and development of the temple so far such as: Dozens of ancient Buddha statues made of wood, copper and stone ; 1 common rose cast in Dinh Mui 1847; A thunder drum was created in the Year of the Monkey in 1848, this drum was used to push troops in the battle of Dai Hoa bridge post in the resistance against the French; dozens of diaphragm pictures, couplets, great words; especially 10 ordinations conferred by the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty.

In the North, South and Southeast of Co Thach pagoda are stalagmites, caves and shrubs; closer to the south and southwest there are many rocky rapids, sandy beaches interspersed with natural rocky beaches running along the coastline, creating a lively and poetic landscape of beauty and attraction that attract tourists. In particular, about 500m from the pagoda to the southwest is a fairly wide strait with pure white sand that has long been an interesting beach for visitors to visit the temple. Along the coast above the beach is a bow-shaped rock beach running over 200m long called Bay Mau Rock Beach, with small dense stones of all shapes, sizes and colors such as gray, white, brown, black, red, gray blue ... Following the Seven Colored Rock Beach to the East is the Mossy Beach, which naturally clings to the rocks under the coastal water and has become an interesting souvenir photo spot; Visiting and resting at Co Thach Pagoda, tourists can both admire the wild natural beauty, just enjoy swimming, enjoying fresh seafood dishes, collecting colorful pebbles and figures. Take it home as a souvenir.

Co Thach pagoda was ranked national achievement in Decision No. 1207 / QD-BT on September 11, 1993 by the Minister of Culture and Information (now Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
