According to the Annals of the Cham people and some documents of French scholars from the early years of the twentieth century, before coming to the throne, Po Nit came from a talented general, capable of fighting against invasion of neighboring countries from the North to the South and from the South. Especially against the troops of the Nguyen Dynasty who are on the way to expand the land to the South in a mighty atmosphere. With these abilities, Po Nit was honored as king and officially crowned from 1603 to 1613. During the 10 years of Po Nit’s country, there were significant contributions, the country was peaceful in this period. for a certain period of time, the people were able to do business quietly, the invasion of neighboring countries also lessened the threat. Also during this period Po Nit also restored and developed its army to protect the rest of the kingdom to the south.

During this period, many Cham invaders invaded Phu Yen province, under the control of the Nguyen Dynasty. In order to keep the postponement and create a premise for a good relationship between the two countries, Lord Nguyen married the princess to Ponit as a concubine and later became the queen. It also proves the power and power of the Champa kingdom under the Po Nit dynasty, causing Lord Nguyen to resort to the soft diplomatic art, thereby strengthening the long-time peaceability between the two countries. Dai Viet - Champa.

At the throne and reigning for 10 years, Po Nit ceded the throne to his brother, Chai Pran, who continued to reign, and he retreated behind the main government until his death. After his death, according to the Cham Balamon tradition and customs, his body was burned. The court and clan established temples and statues to worship him to this day.

In the middle of the seventeenth century, Po Nit temple was built on a high hill on the right bank of Phan Ri river (the end of Luy River) now in Phan Ri Thanh commune, Bac Binh district. If in the past when the country was still peaceful and full of human resources, tower construction techniques were still reserved, Po Nit would surely deserve to be worshiped in the heart of the towers. But for these objective reasons, the Cham people in this period decided to build temples and statues to worship Him and their two queens and courtiers. Many skilled craftsmen were mobilized from all over the places to build temples, especially to sculpt and decorate the temple.

In 1973, that is, more than 300 years later due to war in this area more and more fierce, on the other hand, traveling to take care of the temple as well as performing religious rituals and festivals of the Cham people met a lot. difficult and dangerous, so the dignitaries after the opinion of the people moved the temple from this position to the location near Thanh Hieu village, Phan Hiep commune today. It is about 2 km to the center of Bac Binh district town, to the East, 67 km from Phan Thiet city to the North along National Road 1A.

According to the ancient tradition of the Cham people, the temples worshiping the gods, the gate and the main gate often turn to the East. The temple has 4 altar rooms corresponding to the 4 roofs above. In 4 altars, there are 3 roofs facing to the East. It is the place to worship King Po Nit, the place to worship the queen and the hall. Particularly for the place of worshiping General Po Kay Mach (Muslims), the door is carved to the North. All 4 roofs of the temple are decorated with the top, including 3 roofs attached to Makara (like a dragon on the roof of a Vietnamese temple) and the temple of the two queens are decorated with large phoenixes on the

The central chamber of the temple houses the statue of King Po Nit. According to the sources circulated in the lineage descended from the king, when Po Nit was alive, talented Cham sculptors were invited to paint and model. This  is  a very important statistic so the figures are very standard, so the statue of the king has a beautiful, balanced body and resembles him during his lifetime. The statue depicts the king sitting, his head wearing a tubular crown tilted forward, embossing with surrounding patterns. This is one of the last stone statues of stone sculpture. In addition to the statue of King Po Nit a few dozen years later, there is a statue of King Po Klong Moh Nai, King Po Klong Gahul, King Po Ro Me and King Po Nraup. From this time on, no more statues have been created, and from here, the famous stone sculptures with more than a millennium of the Cham people have ended.

Connected to the temple of King Po Nit to the North and open to the door is a room to worship two queen queens (one Cham queen and one Vietnamese queen). In the temple, there are 8 stone statues of relatively large mass, including 2 statues of the two queens, the remaining 6 are divided into two rows, leading 4 Kut and 2 queens; row after 2 other Kut objects. All turned to face the main direction of the temple; as well as the statue of King Po Nit, the two statues of the queen are elaborately carved, clearly showing the woman’s body and how to dress.

On the left and right side of the temple there are 2 areas with 10 Kut images made of gray-green stone. These were the people who had made great contributions to the construction of the main dynasty, which was recognized by the dynasty. Due to the general provisions in Brahmanism: only the king and queen can sculpt statues that resemble real people. The remaining people of the royal hierarchy are also sculpted with stone Kut, but the statue also has only basic features, not describing the face or other parts of the body. Most of these Kut figures are humanoid, have heads and have two shoulders, the front is almost entirely carved with many thick embossed patterns.

Ordination set: Due to many contributions to the peaceability between the two dynasties and the two feudal states of Vietnam - Champa, King Po Nit has been granted 8 ordinations under the kings of Minh Mang, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, Tu Duc, Dong Khanh, Duy Tan and Khai Dinh. Currently these tones are kept by the descendants of King Po Nit, along with the memorabilia of the king and the dynasty. Every year when the anniversary of the anniversary, or ceremonies, these memorabilia are given.

Po Nit Temple is one of the main points for Cham people to preserve religious rituals, folklore festivals, both tangible and intangible. The existence of the Po Nit temple is synonymous with the reservation of traditional cultural capital, an important part of Cham cultural heritage not only in Bac Binh but also for the majority of Cham people today and generations to come. after.

At Po Nit temple, Kate festival is celebrated from time  to time like in other temples of Cham people. The ceremony is held on the first day of the seventh month of Cham calendar. The process of the festival ranges from the form to the corresponding content as elsewhere. But it is more convenient because the temple is near the village so the logistics and facilities for the festival are more complete and better than the other temples. In addition to the Kate festival at the Po Nit temple, the villagers sometimes do the island bridge when there are years of drought. Ceremony is held in April Cham calendar to prepare for plowing and sowing. Po Nit Temple contains full of unique cultural values of the Cham people from the early seventeenth century to now more than 400 years. Typically, the collection of stone statues with 21 statues, showing the level and sculpture here, has really brought Champa art with many masterpieces that can be compared with works in the history of ancestors. destination for tourists to visit, research and learn about the unique history and culture of the Cham people.
