Potentials for sea sports in Phu Quy island - (28/07/2016)

(Muinetourism.vn).- Located in the middle of the sea with long and windy beaches, Phu Quy island (Binh Thuan province) has become an ideal destination for tourists who love sea sports, especially kitesurfing.

Located 56 nautical miles (about 120 km) from Phan Thiet city to the East – Southeast, Phu Quy island district is known as a place with great potentials for marine economic development, including sea tourism. The nature has endowed this island with pristine, romantic landscapes and beautiful beaches. Phu Quy island district entice tourists with not only sea leisure tourism but also sea sports, particularly kitesurfing.
When the northern wind blows, you can easily see tourists enjoying kitesurfing along the beach of Long Hai commune. A group of 6 French tourists said: “Surfing in general and kitesurfing in particular is very popular in European countries and the United States”. According to a member of the group, Vietnam has many places suitable for surfing and beaches of Binh Thuan are the best out of them. Along with Mui Ne (Phan Thiet city), Phu Quy island is very potential for sea sports.
Knowing its rich potential in marine tourism, Phu Quy has paid a lot of attention to infrastructure for sea transport, wind power and detailed plans for tourist areas. The district’s chairman - Mr. Ta Quang Nhat said that the district’s tourism sector has achieved strong development, especially since the electricity supply is available 24/24 and the transportation from Phan Thiet city to Phu Quy island and vice versa is strengthened with 5 seagoing ships carrying approximately 900 passengers and 300 tons of goods.
With constant efforts, Phu Quy is gradually becoming an attractive destination to tourists. Since the beginning of 2016, more than 30 international travelers from 10 countries have come to the island to enjoy surfing. They gathered in groups, rode motorcycle to the beaches of Tan Hai or Phu Long hamlets to play the sport. Most of them are from Australia, the UK and Germany. The images of foreign tourists carrying surfing boards on the streets has become more and more familiar with the local inhabitants.
