Nghinh Ong Festival 2016 opened in Phan Thiet city - (28/08/2016)

( On the morning of 26th August 2016, the 11th Nghinh Ong Festival (or Nghinh Ong Quan Thanh De Quan Festival) 2016 has officially opened with a lot of traditional activities in Quan De temple (Ong pagoda) and some pagodas in Phan Thiet city.

In the morning, many sacred rites were held in pagodas of Phan Thiet city, for instance,  Ceremony of petition for prayer books at Buu Quang pagoda; Ceremony of petition for  well-water at Thien Lam pagoda; Ceremony of Opening prayer books Ong pagoda (Quan De temple), etc.
In the evening, the two clubhouses of Phuoc Kien and Quang dong hold ceremonies at Ong pagoda and a rite of dropping lights was held at the sea port, where Ca Ty river meets the sea.
In the evening, at 07:00 pm, at the stage of Phan Thiet city’s cultural center (at the Seven Junction), the Opening Ceremony of Nghinh Ong Festival 2016 was held with many interesting performances presented by Hoa (ethnic Chinese) people from the 4 clubhouses of Phuoc Kien, Quang Dong, Trieu Chau and Hai Nam and the art team from Ho Chi Minh city.

Nghinh Ong Festival in Phan Thiet is organized every two years to pray for peace, good crops and happiness. The highlight of the festival is the procession of clubhouses with their members dressing as historical characters, lion and dragon dances along streets of Phan Thiet city. This year, the procession begins at 05:00 am on Sunday, 28th August 2016 (26th July in Lunar Calendar).
