Sand Dune Running Contest on Lunar New Year 2015 - (22/02/2015)

( On the morning of 22nd February 2015 (the fourth day of Lunar New Year 2015), the Sand Dune Running Contest to celebrate Lunar New Year 2015 was held in the flying sand dunes of Mui Ne (Phan Thiet city) with the participation of 257 athletes (including 74 female athletes) from 25 teams. The contest attracted a great number of spectators and tourists.

Organized to serve local residents and tourists on Lunar New Year, the Sand Dune Running Contest 2015 comprised three categories: 1.600 meters for female amateur athletes, 2.500 meters for male amateur athletes and 4.500 meters for male professional athletes with two thirds of the running-way was immense yellow sand dunes. The cool air of New Year was the favorable condition for athletes to show their skills. Strong running steps and spectacular spurts of athletes created exciting moments and unique images that attracted the spectators. The excitement and enjoyableness of the contest became beautiful strokes in the wonderful natural picture describing Phan Thiet in spring.

After about 2 hours of vigorous competitions, almost all athletes finished their running way. With excellent skills and great stamina, two athletes Tran Van Tai and Tran Van Cong (both from Thien Nghiep) and athlete Nguyen Thanh Binh (from Ham Thuan Nam) respectively won the first, the second and the third prizes in the category for male professional athletes. In the category for male amateur athletes, the first, the second and the third prizes respectively belonged to Nguyen Van Duy, Le Duc Anh and Nguyen Van Cot (all from Thien Nghiep). In the category for female amateur athletes, Mang Thi Chi (from Tien Loi) was the fastest while Duong Thi Phuc and Nguyen Thi Tram finished their races at the second and the third places. Besides, the organizers also gave consolation awards for individuals as well as team awards for all categories.

The Sand Dune Running Contest in Mui Ne, which is annually organized on the fourth day of Lunar New Year, is always a spring gift to visitors come to Phan Thiet on Lunar New Year’s Days.
