Traditional Boat Racing Festival on Ca Ty river
This traditional festival originates from fishing of local people in Phan Thiet. Every year, on the occasion of celebrating the fishing career, fishermen of old fishing villages, namely Nam Nghia, Thuy Tu, Nam Hai, Duc Long, Phu Trinh usually wore uniforms and held same-color paddles, then stood by a big boat with incense-table, singing and paddling to worship deities of sea. Afterwards, to create an animated atmosphere as well as to increase endurance of fishermen, these fishing villages jointly organized boat racings on Ca Ty river, which create a unique cultural activity for this coastal town on holidays and Lunar New Year.
Annually, on the afternoon of the second day of Lunar New Year, when Phan Thiet city covered in spring sunshine, the traditional boat racing festival on the peaceful Ca Ty river attracts thousands of people to the riversides and bridges going across the river to watch the races.
